image: DeZona Shin Azumi talked to DeZona during Belgrade Design Week. “For me, as a Japanese designer, selling too much is a bit risky - you may end-up with designs looking like souvenirs from Japan. I always try to find something in the middle – between Japanese traditions and international design”, he says. “I don’t know about risks! Sometimes I take them without being in full consciousness. I’m feeling almost like a gambler! I don’t think about risks, before taking them”, admits Shin Azumi. For more on modern design, copying and his reason to be in Belgrade, you can read his full interview.▪

Image: Atkins
Atkins is designing P-17 - a super slim tower giving the illusion of constantly changing appearance. It will be located on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dibai. The tower will be 379 m tall. Its darker front facade rises from the ground and twists slightly in a striking glass and steel design. Increasingly taller blades splay outwards, conveying the appearance of layered planes, which move sideways to produce a challenging, gravity-defying form. “This design integrate contemporary architectural thought with innovative engineering,” says Joe Tabet, Head of Architecture for Atkins in Abu Dhabi.

Images: Tom Bonner Jesse Bornstein has designed the Panorama House in Santa Monica. As its name hints, it maximizes the panoramic city views with a series of horizontal floor, deck and roof planes. The roof forms parallel the site’s slope. Center-stringer stairs bridge across exterior landscaping and run through the house connecting split-level floor and deck planes. Sliding panels, of clear glass along the exterior and translucent glass within the house, moderate these connections. When panels are open, sliding into pockets in walls, the house is completely open to itself and to the outdoors. ▪

Images: Regia Bilbao is one of the best series Regia has recently shown. The design is by Bruna Rapisarda. The products can be in various colours and finishes. The roomy washbasin of black or white technoglass combines with finishes in rosewood, natural maple or wenge. It is also available in 6 colours of Norway maple: natural, cyclamen, blue, grey, forest green and orange. The coloured version of frosted glass is in contrast with the black and white lacquered finishes. You can also choose from red, blue, green and orange. The storage beneath the washbasin can be single (for the wall-hung version) or double (for the floor-standing one). ▪

Images: Gareth Gardner Have a look at the headquarters of Red Bull, designed by Jump Studios. It is situated in London and is spread on 1860 sq.m. The brief was to amalgamate two separate offices into one central headquarters building. The new offices occupy the top 3 floors of an existing 19th century building, including a recent roof-level extension with the form of a glass “box” surrounded by an exterior terrace. “For us, this represented an ideal starting point for both employees and visitors alike, as a way for them to experience the building,” says Jump Studios director Simon Jordan.
