Tom Price presented his Cast Lights at IMM Cologne 2008 in the section [d3] design talents. These sculptural lighting pieces are made from solidified light. A small light bulb was placed in a 3D scanning device. When switched on, the scanner was able to detect a halo of light emanating from the bulb and created a three dimensional solid model of the surface of the glow. The computer models were then built in nylon using rapid manufacturing technology (SLS).

Cate Hagdahl and Nelson Ruiz-Acal from cate&nelson presented their Fiat Lux table lamp in the Greenhouse at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2008. The lamp has an integrated slot to hold book or magazines. Thought to go next to a bed, an armchair or a sofa. When lit the letters Fiat Lux (\"let there be light\") show on the side of the lamp. The product is still a prototype.

An eagle registers movement on the ground � is it prey or predator? When lit, the blonde birch veneer shines with a warm glow, and the delicately cut forest motif allows white light to filter out between the highlights of the trees. Petro is a glass table lamp. Northern Lighting presented it at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2008. The dark tinted tube floats on top of a transparent horizontal element, encapsulated in a clear outer shell and containing an inner chrome base element. Petro is about oil in water, about the natural balance between these two elements and how they interact and isolate themselves when placed together. The layers and elusive spaces give the lamp additional dimensions. Petro expresses transparency, reflection and lightness, and gives off a warm and subdued light. Designer: Martin Hoegh Olsen.
