They convey trust and confidence, solidity. Thanks to intelligent construction details underneath the table, it may be extended by one meter by pulling out the frame. The legs move on casters, keep them on the track. Afterwards, the tabletop swivels out to offer four additional places. Design: Martin Ballendat.▪

In collaboration with the Swiss architect Hannes Wettstein and his team Erik Joergensen has developed this new modular sofa concept, with 11 different modules, offering a variety of possibilities for an individual and unique sofa solution. The domestic appliance manufacturer Miele received numerous prestigious awards as iF gold award, iF product design, red dot design award and red dot Honourable mentions. Four products were awarded with iF gold: the DGC 5080 combi steam cooker, the W 4800/4840 washing machine, MasterCool refrigerators and the H 5681 B wall oven. Whereas Apple was the best-rated brand overall with a total of 8 \'Golds\', Miele\'s four put the brand fairly and squarely in second place.

It uses tension and friction to generate superior structural integrity with a minimum of material. It is made from sustainable North American forest products; maple legs and a paper-based phenolic resin top for a warm sanitary surface that is heat and stain resistant as well as inert (does not off-gas), making it safe for schools and hospitals or any commercial or residential application.

The red dot award: communication design is starting a new season. Designers, advertising agencies and clients of communication designers from all over the world are as of now invited once more to submit their entries for the competition and to face up to international comparison in one of the most severe design competitions in the world.

A top-class expert jury will decide on the quality of the entries submitted. Moreover, within the scope of the red dot award: communication design the title �red dot: design agency of the year� will be awarded for the first time this year. This award will honour an agency or a design studio for particularly continuous and innovative design performance in the field of communication design. Entries for the competition can be submitted until 13 June 2008 under www.red-dot.de/registration.

Wine Preserver?! Sounds strange but it is already a fact. The WinePreserva is a disk system which, when inserted in an opened bottle of wine, keeps the nose and taste of the wine �at restaurant quality� for up to 5 days. Less expensive than alternative products, the disk is simple and easy to use, and unlike conventional preserving techniques, does not contaminate or taint the wine. The product is designed by Invetech for WinePreserva Pty Ltd. The WinePreserva was awarded with Australian International Design Mark 2008 in recognition of good design.

D:Scribe is a digital fountain pen that allows users to send SMS and email messages from paper. Just write out the message, and circle the person\'s name to send. This does away with using a keypad or keyboard and allows the user to focus on communicating in a more personal way. The pen also records everything that is written that could be accessed on a computer later. D:Scribe is designed by the young designer Reuben Png and was among the finalist in the competition for the Australian Design Award - Dyson Student Award.

In this \"book\", different pages include different functions, like media recording, solar recharging and EL illuminant. The approach of reading a book takes the traditional way of operating computer, which encourage those backpackers to experience and share more about their trips. The winners of this year�s Promosedia International Design Competition � Caiazza Memorial Challenge are made known. Now in its twelfth year, the competition remains a point of reference on a worldwide level for under-40 designers, including architects, designers and students from Architecture Faculties and Institutes of Design from every continent. Three hundred designs were entered for the 2008 event, which rewarded six seats with one First Prize, two Honourable Mentions and three Special Mentions.▪
